 Alabama Paint Rock Agate
Alabama Paint Rock Agate (WET pic.) This material is not dug anymore and is scarce. Paint Rock Agate was found at the interface of the upper Mississippian limestone and the Pennsylvanian sandstone on the steep sides of the Cumberland Plateau. The sandstone weathers at a faster rate than the limestone and therefore a bench general forms at the interface. The agate can be found free of the limestone matrix but at the origin it is often found locked in the limestone. (9.2 oz.)
PRICE: $7.50
 Alunite on matrix
Alunite on matrix (WET pic.)The symmetry of alunite is the same as the members of the Tourmaline Group. Crystals of alunite however do not form prismatic crystals like those of the typical tourmaline mineral. Alunite's crystals are more flattened and resemble nearly cubic rhombohedrons. The "rhombohedrons" are actually a combination of two trigonal pyramids. (2 lbs. 5.8 oz.)
PRICE: $5.00
