The Crown of Silver Mine was started in 1940 as a war involved mineral and was closed in 1947. In the 1950s rumors say it was worked by Mexican miners for the lapidary market before it became unsafe to enter the mine. It was ransacked for a few years but again reopened in 2003 only to close again soon after for safety reasons. Talk is it has been bought and reopened recently! What a history for the Silver Crown Mine in Chihuahua Mexico and it's where Crown Silver Psilomelane was/is mined. Easy to imagine this stuff being used somehow for manufacturing in the war movement. Beautiful black on silver black plumes with an occasional small white micro druzy pocket. But this slab's from an odd chunk of the gemmy stalactite loaded top. It gets even better with micro druzy covering the windowed stalactites and the deep red moss that is seldom seen on top with the black psilomelane plumes rising from the bottom. This is an amazing and beautiful oddity and would make a great show piece or cut something with outstanding beauty. -WET pic.-(3"x 2"/1 oz./5mm thk) no fractures
