Purple Bertrandite, Opal Fluorite, Purple Passion, Purple Opal, Beryllium Ore are other names for this popular stone that is only found at one place in the world, Utah. It started when the government started mining for Beryllium to use on the nose cones of missile's to keep heat from building up at high speeds. The Tiffany Stone was the bi-product rock and was nothing but the tailings from mining the Beryllium. They once let people in to collect but have stopped all access. You guessed it.....becoming harder and harder to find good grade and let me tell you there is a ton of junk out there bouncing around from a -new vein- they collect from now. Bogus! But I just got us a large sweet high grade nodule to slab from a special friend of mine. It's like she knew I needed this gem for the rock site but even more for my own need to hold a piece of this gorgeous earth. She drove to Utah and got me the real deal from the Zion Rock Shop. Stunning piece that the shop owner was glad to hook me up with I'm sure. And if you've worked with this rock you know it can come all cracked up and full of fractures because of the way it's mined. They don't care because they are wanting the Beryllium and the hard Tiffany stone is just a pain in the equipment's butt. This slab has zero cracks. It's a beauty and will cut something amazing! -WET pic.-(2"X 2"/1.8 oz./wedge 7mm -11mm) >>> solid for cabs
