This material is not collected much anymore and is scarce. Paint Rock Agate was found at the interface of the upper Mississippian limestone and the Pennsylvanian sandstone on the steep sides of the Cumberland Plateau. Sandstone weathers at a faster rate than the limestone and therefore a bench will form at the interface and the agate can be found free of the limestone matrix but it is often found locked in its limestone matrix.. Anyway, a tough bugger to get at and out...Check this partial nodule out, it's a beauty! -WET pic.-(6 oz. )
