The town of Hartville was established in 1884, and named after Major Virling Hart, the owner of a local copper mine. Hartville was first settled in the 1870’s by prospectors and was a thriving city by the turn of the century. Many of the buildings built during this time are still standing today. During the old west period, Hartville was the scene of multiple shootings. Many of the victims were cowboys and are buried at the town's cemetery. As of the 2010, there were 62 people, 32 households, and 16 families residing in the town. Hartville is the smallest town in Platte County, but don't let that fool you...this community has a "whole lotta Hart!" Hartville has the distinction of being the Oldest-Still-In-Existence-Incorporated-Town in Wyoming. The Miner's Inn is the oldest bar in Wyoming, and you can still stop in there for an ice cold beverage or a visit with the locals. And yes, the town has yielded this cool seam agate. -WET pic.-(2.2 oz.) end cut very solid w/ no fractures
