Joel F. Hauser was one lucky guy in my book. Born in Blythe California in 1915. That was the first lucky star that shined upon him, being born in California that is. The second in my mind is when his father led the both of them to a place in the desert where that star lit up his world. I'll come back to this part of the story after I tell you about how Joel was moving right along in life and at the age of 20 he got his own car because he had a hankerin to go farther from home to look for, you guessed it, rocks. Seems someone had given him some rocks and geodes a while back and he was one serious hound now. Knowing about his son's passion for rocks, Joel's father told him about something he remembers way back when Joel was born. He had a delivery company and once a week would load up goods onto a team of horses and mules and deliver it to the train station in Niland or Glamis. He remembered an area in a remote spot on the trip where there were these strange formations of knobby rocks all over the place. Once the story hit Joel's ears it wasn't long before they went looking for it. Sure enough as they drove the old trail they came upon the infamous agate bed. Yes, it was named after them as the many more rock discoveries to come were named after their finders but few before as Joel was one of the pioneer hounds of our times. There is much more to read about this old time rock hero at..... The Hauser Beds Discovery
