The same type agate ranges throughout 3 states but a small area in Montana seems to have the best of all of it. Found in gravel deposits in the middle and lower Yellowstone valleys. Agates are found in both the present river and in gravel deposits. 10 to 15 miles on both sides of the Yellowstone drainage. I have cut some of these kind before where there's such a beautiful contrast of translucent black agate to complete clear.
