Monte Cristo's Castle Jasper*

The rough comes from a stunning geologic region of colored rock formations, canyons and vistas, located on the southwestern edge of the Monte Cristo Range in Esmeralda County, Nevada. This desert landscape is composed mainly of eroded white ash and limestone with areas of this awesome colored jasper that really sticks out. There are a group of individuals who are trying to get the area turned into "Monte Cristo's Castle State Park". It may be the only way to stop people from driving all terrain vehicles and motorcycles in the area. If they succeed, there will be no more of this jasper coming out of the area as it will be off limits to collectors. I bet Jay King is glad he did his Monte Cristo Jewelry gig when he did it.
