I have always known this jasper as War Bonnet and it has always been pricey and hard to find. I have not seen any rough for quite a few years. I know when everyone is in Quartzite, that is the place to watch for some rare chucks of what ever to show up here and there. Sure enough a friend of mine said he found a chunk of what was called War Paint Jasper. I immediately thought of Bonnet and what if.... Before I could ask, he told me it was the name given by the fellow who discovered it years ago, but it has been called other names, and one was War Bonnet. I had to have it so I traded a big chunk of Shattuckite for it. I could never understand why someone would call a rock War Bonnet. I mean it has flower/leaf type patterns on a tan background so what is the connection. Then it came to me. Remember the camouflage they would put on military helmets (War Bonnet?). -WET pic. -(15 oz) very solid with no fractures
