On California's shore stretching between Shelter Cove to the south and the Mattole River to the north, the Lost Coast is a wild land of forests and lapping waves that give and take an endless barrage of rocky material upon it's sandy shores. With no major roads to access this ocean-wrapped region, it is justly called the Lost Coast. But you can explore on foot as the 24-mile-long Lost Coast Trail is open to anyone. If you are a hound then the water is already there to light up the translucency of an agate or a quartz gem that waves may have brought in after a storm that night. I obtained this softball size water worn chunk of quartz from someone who saw the beauty it held. It is stunning in how the random pink wisps are suspended in translucent quarts that was obviously in a molten state because it has that look of when you pour two paints together and stir one time around. The darker color is granite and there are many specks of pyrite throughout the stone. -WET pic.-(15.4 oz.) no fractures
